Year 4 Weather Reports

When we looked at different countries around the world we looked at how their weather can be different to ours.

We watched weather reports and then researched a particular country to find out what the weather was like and if it was normal for that time of year.

Here are our weather reports:

Year 4 Samba Drumming

Year 5 came to Year 4 to teach us some samba drumming! We really enjoyed hearing the music of Brazil and we learnt the rhythms of the music.

Thank you to Year 5 and Mrs Watson for our samba drumming lesson, take a look at the videos to see how we collaborated:

Year 4 drama: freeze frames

As part of our topic we have been looking at the country Brazil. To help us understand the life of some children we have read a story about a boy called Pele who lives in a favela in Rio. He has to make some choices along the way about whether he should be selling papayas to help his family get money or join in a football game as it’s his dream to be a professional footballer.

We spent some time weighing up Pele’s choices and found it was difficult to decide especially as we were able to give reasons for both choices.

At one point in the story he upsets an older boy called Dengar who also lives in the favela. Pele is warned to not be out in the favela after dark or he will get into trouble.

We had to imagine that Pele was coming home to the favela in the dark after selling his papayas when he was met by Dengar and his gang.

We freeze framed what we thought might happen to Pele:

Unfortunately we were concerned that Pele may have had a negative experience with Dengar and his gang. This led us on to discussions about who to speak to if we need help in any situation.

We thought carefully about how Pele might have felt during this story and used those emotions to help us write our own stories about children living in Brazil.

Well done Year 4 for thinking so maturely and carefully about other people’s feelings and experiences.

#internationalhappinessday in Year 4

Today was International Happiness Day! We decided to make some happiness bookmarks with happy and positive pictures and messages for when we need something to make us smile.

We also completed a happiness booklet full of different things that make us happy…food, songs, smells, events and people to name a few! Keep an eye out for those tomorrow when we bring them home.

We hope you have all been able to think of something today that makes you happy ☺️

Year 4 visit @wethecurious_

On Friday Years 3 to 6 visited We The Curious in Bristol. We had a brilliant time there and really enjoyed ourselves!

Year 3 and 4 completed a workshop on the digestive system. We learnt the different organs that are in our bodies to help us digest our food and the job that each part of the digestive system plays. We had to play the part of our mouth, stomach and intestines to digest our ‘food’ and get rid of the waste product poo.

We also completed an experiment making different toothpastes. We had cards with different recipes that included bicarbonate of soda, glycerin, peppermint extract and sand. Our recipes didn’t include all of the ingredients and some of us could brush our ‘teeth’ with toothbrushes but some people had to use our fingers. We found that brushing our teeth with toothbrushes was better and some ingredients were more successful. As it’s ‘Science Week’ we’re going to look at this in more detail this week so come back and see how we get on!

In the afternoon we went to a ‘How your body works’ show which had experiments and demonstrations showing how different things in our body work. Take a look at the videos below to find out more…

How our muscles work:

A very big thank you to We The Curious for our exciting day on Friday, we loved exploring the exhibitions and learning new things in our workshops and shows!
